So I let these things drop. Oh well, let's try again. This time, only a short commentary on one volume.

Before we start, a note about the poll last time: no one minds spoilers, so spoil away!

Vol 4, Genius 26. Fudoumine looks fearsome

* It seems like every good school has a fearsome look on their faces. The bad schools just have mean looks, which causes them to lose.

* Isn't it adorable of Ryouma to copy Shinji? Such a cute little show-off.

* Oh, gods. I said I wouldn't comment on the translations, but I seem to be unable to help myself. Ryuuzaki-sensei actually supposedly calls Eiji "Kiki"? Kiki?

Vol 4, Genius 27 - 28. Fuji amazes everyone and Kawamura is brave

* So, Fudoumine's students, or at least some of them, live in dorms. Interesting. I wonder if other schools have similar arrangements. St. Rudolph has, but any other schools? Hyoutei? Oshitari comes from Osaka, so it would make sense for him to live in dorms.

* And Fuji's triple counters make an appearance. I already said this last time, but I think it's pretty ridiculous that these middle schoolers have fancily named fancy shots that everyone is amazed by. When I see them, I imagine them getting into a competition over whose fancy shot is the fanciest of all. (Atobe would win, of course, because he's Atobe. What? Did I forget to tell you I fangirl Atobe? Oops.)

* Ooh, just like [personal profile] nakuru said, here Kaidou reveals who is the other person who can return his Snake shot. It's not Tezuka (although I suspect that's because Tezuka doesn't give Kaidou any opportunities for using the Snake). It's Fuji. As expected from our tensai.

* Tachibana calls Fuji a tennis genius. In fanfic, he's often depicted as being a genius at everything. I think I agree with that. He doesn't take tennis seriously, as if it didn't offer him any challenge (which it usually doesn't). But if tennis was the only thing which offered him no challenge, I don't think he'd act like that. He'd probably be more likely to be pleased to be a natural at something. No, he acts like everything comes to him easily and nothing is worth getting truly passionate about. Except for punishing those who have hurt his loved ones, but we'll get back to that at a later date.

* I like this pose (*points down at Fuji*). I actually like it so much that I have the same pose from the anime as my user picture at Facebook. It's probably against Facebook's rules, but whatever.

fuji shuusuke

* The Fuji/Kawamura shippers go crazy, though not quite as crazy as they will go after the Kawamura-Kabaji match.

* And the chapter concludes with a little Golden Pair moment, where Ooishi provides insight into Eiji's psyche.

Vol 4, Genius 29. Eiji gets serious and Ryouma shows off

* I keep thinking of things to say about the characters, but then I think that, hmm, there's going to be that moment later on in the manga. Maybe I should save a more in-depth comment until then. So, at this point I'll just say that I love Eiji and that I'm going to come back to him when his moments of development come later on.

* And I also love Kaidou. In fact, I think I can just safely declare my love for most of the characters in the series. Atobe, though, he's above everyone else. Atobe-sama no bigi ni yoi na.

* Once again, Ryouma can't help showing off. Who are the people who are present both times when he shows off in this volume? Kaidou, Shinji, Kamio and the ichinen trio. Who is the one Ryouma feels the need to impress? Who does he have a crush on? :D

Vol 4, Genius 30 - 33. Everyone is fixated on Kaidou's Snake. Er...

* Is it Kaidou Ryouma has a crush on? His expression when he looks at Kaidou might suggest so. :D

echizen ryouma

* It's not only other middle schoolers who are afraid of Kaidou's stare. It's also adults like the umpire here. *sigh*

* Tezuka -- dependable, serious Tezuka -- gets Kaidou to behave again. My love for Tezuka almost rivals my love for Atobe.

* I wonder, which one is faster, Kamio or Shishido?

* Kaidou is fixated on his Snake Shot. Scratch that, everyone is fixated on Kaidou's Snake Shot. It's as if everyone, including Kaidou himself, thinks he is nothing without it.

* Insert gratuitous shots of Ryouma watching Kaidou.

* Ryuuzaki-sensei speaks words of wisdom, chastising Kaidou for depending on his Boomerang Snake. Wheeeee! Finally someone sees the idiocy of depending on one special shot.

* You know, in that characters profiles page in Genius 32, Kaidou is described as being easily angered, possibly due to lack of calcium. *cue hysterical laughter* Maybe Inui should have prescribed milk for Kaidou instead of Ryouma.

Vol 4, Genius 34. An flirts with Momo.

* Blah-di-dah-di-dah. More bullies. Momo-chan to the rescue. This constant bullying of our hero(ine)s is getting boring.

Let's close with a poll, seeing as I've been declaring my love for this and that character.
