Ahh, I think this theory is pretty valid. Atobe seems like someone very determined and unwilling to be seen as weak. The bullying that he received in England will also have driven his determination to make himself stronger and different.
Speaking as someone who did the same myself, reinventing myself when I moved to a different country, it's not as hard as it looks, and with the money that Atobe seems to have, it would be easier since (practically) nobody knows him. Especially when you're foreign and filled with confidence, people are drawn to you and you'll end up being enough of a novelty to end up landing the student president role (since that's only a popularity contest). And of course, Atobe's actual ability led to him holding the position for a longer period of time.
Also, along with the bullying trend...whenever he uses insight, he really does look like he's pushing up glasses to see better ^^; While we never see him wearing glasses in canon, I do have a headcanon that Atobe had glasses as a kid, which was yet another reason to lead to bullying from others. Another thing that he ditched when he made himself strong and powerful in Hyotei.
